Breakin' Down The Walls Of Heartache

This was the bands second single and was a tribute to Northern Soul legend, Geno Washington. The song had been a live favourite and was an obvious choice for a single. And to prove what a good choice of single it was it reached Number 1 in the national chart in May of 1980 where it remained for 2 weeks.

Ex-Merton Parka, Mick Talbot joined Dexys later on, though he only ever played on one Dexys single (Keep It Part 2). Andy Leek played keyboards on Geno and was then replaced by Dexys original keyboard player Pete Saunders. After Dexys, Mick Talbot was in The Bureau before The Style Council along with 4 other ex-Dexys members and 2 members of the Mod band The Upset.

Anyone that doubts the grip 2 Tone had on the nation should bear in mind that also in the top 30 of that week were Madness, The Selecter, The Bodysnatchers and Bad Manners. Also appearing in the chart of that week were UB40 and The Lambrettas with their 2 Tone clone single, Poison Ivy.

Cheers to Bazza for the correction.
