At The Home Organ: Demos 1980-1982

Jerry Dammers at the Home Organ, from cassettes recorded in 1980/1981 and 1981/1982. A fascinating release for those of us that like a peek behind the scenes. Two of Dammers' home demos of consecutive releases from 1981/1982.

The release is on 10" vinyl and is released in the cardboard dub-plate style die-cut sleeve similar to 2020's Specials DUB release although this sleeve is particular to this release as it carries the CHS TT 34 catalogue number.

The tracks are a fascinating look at the evolution of these iconic songs. The Ghost Town demo shows the song with a latin-preset rather than a roots reggae backing rhythm (not dissimilar to The Spatial AKA's version 30 years later), the only parts missing are the Boomtown middle-section and of course the lyrics.

The flip is once again a surprisingly complete demo with John Shipley on guitar of Dammers' reinterpretation of music from The Bodysnatchers' harrowing The Boiler. A great release for 2021's RSD and hopefully the first of many...
